The law was passed as part of the 1972 Education Amendments and states 'No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.' The U.S. Title IX prohibits sex discrimination in all areas of education, protecting students and staff in any educational institution that receives federal funds. But the value of Title IX legislation is so much more than that.
